Signage is up for The Noortwyck, a new restaurant from Sommelier Cedric Nicaise and Chef Andrew Quinn, both formerly of Eleven Madison Park. The Noortwyck, according to a filing, will be “an elevated neighborhood restaurant focusing on delicious food, and warm hospitality. The food will be seasonally driven and locally sourced.”
The restaurant is located in the space formerly occupied by Chef John Fraser’s, The Loyal, and sits on a sunny corner at 289 Bleecker Street, just off 7th Avenue. The restaurant is in the process of acquiring a liquor license and approval for a sidewalk café, according to the filing.
The name, The Noortwyck, stands for the “North District.” It reportedly dates back to the 1630s when the land was cleared and turned into pasture by Dutch and freed African settlers. It was later conquered by the British in 1664, and renamed Greenwich Village.
