Don Don is a new Korean barbecue concept that is now open near Bryant Park at 37 West 43rd Street near 6th Avenue. Inspired by South Korea’s after-hours eating and drinking scene and late 90s/early 2000s, Don Don is a retro yet upscale Korean barbecue restaurant that specializing in refined dry-aged pork cuts all made in-house, including a Butcher’s Special featuring top cuts of the day.
The grilled meats are complemented by classic Korean stews like Doenjang Jjigae, made with fermented soybean paste; Kimchi Jjigae, a hearty and spicy stew made with aged kimchi; and Aehobak Jjigae, a lighter option made with zucchini. To close the meal, the menu also includes a selection of noodles, both warm and chilled, such as Gochu Ramyun with pork, pork rib and housemade chili oil; Gogi Guksu with beef and chicken served with pork medallions and chives; and Bibim Guksu, a cold corn-based noodle dish served with a frozen savory and spicy broth.
Rice dishes include Bulpan Kimchi Fried Rice, as well as a nostalgic Old School Lunch Box, with Korean sausage jeon and stir-fried kimchi, topped with toasted seaweed flakes and crispy anchovy, which is all shaken up in the box to mix all the ingredients together. Additional sides include a Ssam Vegetable Set to wrap and enjoy with your barbecue, Stir Fried Kimchi, and more.
The beverage menu features draft and bottled beers, soju cocktails and wine. Guests are encouraged to also enjoy somaek - a classic Korean drink that combines a shot of soju with light beer - to start off their meals.
The lively atmosphere beckons guests to relax and shed their stresses at the door. The decor leans heavily into late 80s, 90s and early 2000s Korean pop culture. Playful pig motifs are scattered throughout the restaurant in a nod to the all-pork barbecue selections on the menu.
Don Don is open from 11:30 AM–11 PM on Mondays through Thursdays, and 11 AM–2 AM on Fridays through Sundays. For more information, please visit dondonnyc.com
