Restaurateur Stephen Starr is announcing the return of Jason Atherton to The Clocktower Restaurant at The New York EDITION in Flatiron. The renowned English Chef is also unveiling a new, entirely-British menu. In fact, The Clocktower is the city’s only Michelin-starred British restaurant.

Atherton calls the new menu “100% British, like the food back home.” Starters include Clocktower Scotch Egg with walnut ketchup — a condiment inspired by HP Sauce (an English staple); ‘Ham, Eggs & Chips’ with pineapple pickle — a classic working man’s pub meal; and London Gin-Cured Salmon with cauliflower puree, black pudding and Suffolk cider.

Larger plates bring classic comfort foods like Elysian Lamb Shepherd’s Pie with “sheep rustler” cheese, Beef Wellington with horseradish mash, glazed carrots and bone-marrow gravy prepared tableside, and IPA Beer-Battered Fish & Chips with mushy peas, seaweed tartar and Meyer lemon which is as British as it gets

Desserts include an English Custard Tart with nutmeg and yogurt sorbet, and Banoffee Baked Alaska, a recipe created in East Sussex in 1971 at the Hungry Monk restaurant. Margaret Thatcher, the Prime Minister at the time, declared it her favorite dessert.

The Clocktower’s beverage program is led by Aaron Thorp, who also oversees the beverage program at Starr’s celebrated NYC restaurant Le Coucou. It includes a list of playful and inventive cocktails inspired by iconic children's literature.

The ambiance of The Clocktower is reminiscent of a private members club that one might find in London with rich colors and textures, romantic lighting, and five rooms to experience across the entire second floor of the hotel. The opulent bar is wrapped entirely in 24k gold leaf. There’s also a billiards room with bright purple pool table and light fixture to match.

The Clocktower is located on the second floor of The New York EDITION at 5 Madison Avenue, New York, NY (212) 413-4300
