The Upper West Side just scored a taste of Athens — and this week, it comes with free gyros.

The Gyro Project, the Greek street food spot known for loading its pitas with crispy fries, bold sauces, and spit-roasted meats, is now open at 2062 Broadway (at 71st Street). And on Thursday, April 10, 2025 the first 50 guests in line for dinner at 5 p.m. will walk away with a free gyro, swag, and a t-shirt.

This is the first Manhattan location for the brand, founded by restaurateurs George Tenedios (front) and Spiro Kokkosis (back), with backing from the team behind Kyma Restaurants. It’s fast-casual, yes — but with a serious nod to tradition and top-tier Greek ingredients.

The star of the show is the gyro, offered with beef & lamb, chicken, or pork belly, wrapped in a warm pita and loaded with toppings like tomatoes, onions, and house-made sauces such as spicy feta, hot harissa, honey mustard, or the classic tzatziki.

But the menu stretches well beyond the wrap — think feta-brined rotisserie chicken, Greek mezedes, specialty fries, hearty bowls, and sweet-and-savory bakery treats. There’s even a full-on froyo program with creations like deconstructed baklava.

The Gyro Project already has locations in Fort Lee and Newark, with another Manhattan outpost headed for Kips Bay this summer. For now, the UWS gets first dibs — and a gyro on the house if you’re fast enough.
