It’s called Thea, a new Mediterranean bakery, making its debut at 17 Greene Avenue in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.
Thea Team: Gerardo Estevez, Christina Kavalis, Tomer Blechman (Left to Right)
Thea is the brainchild of the team behind Theodora and Miss Ada. Chef/Owner Tomer Blechman and Pastry Chef Christina Kavalis (previously of Sullivan Street Bakery and Milk Bar) are serving up house-made bourekas, babkas, pastries, breads and sandwiches with flavors inspired by the Mediterranean, Greece, Israel and Mexico City.
Highlights include Blueberry Pistachio Pound Cake; Amba & Olive Sourdough bread; Zaatar Pita; Focaccia and Honey Glazed & Seeded Challah (only available on Fridays & Saturdays). Specialty sandwiches can also be found like Chicken Milanesa; Matbukha and Pickles on Challah; Halloumi, Tomato Aioli and Basil on Focaccia; and House Made Pastrami on Sourdough. A selection of dips and ready-to-eat items from the Theodora and Miss Ada’s menus are also available.
The bright and airy space offers a mix of modern and Old World charm, similar to its sister, Theodora, which is just two doors away. The welcoming space features exposed brick walls, elegant travertine tables and cozy oak banquettes along with a vintage hutch and pastry cases.
Thea is open seven days a week from 7am-3pm. For more information, visit www.theabakerynyc.com
