Cititour Review:

Inside the Neue Galerie for German and Austrian Art you'll find Cafe Sabarsky. The dining area is truly elegant. It sits inside a mansion, once owned by the Vanderbuilts, with wood paneling, high ceilings and a marble fireplace. On the menu, you'll find a delicious chestnut soup, ($9.50), Hungarian Goulash with herbed quark spatzle ($25), and Tafelspitz (steamed beef topped with fresh horseradish) served with creamed spinach and sautéed potatoes ($25). Other items include a Cod Strudel with Reisling Sauerkraut ($25), and sandwiches made with Herring, egg and apple ($12.50) or smoked salmon, egg and scallions ($13.50). But the real treat is the dessert menu, which includes a variety of tortes and the best apple strudel ($6) you'll find in New York City. Even the coffee is outstanding. Cafe Sabarsky is a great stop after a trip to the museum, or just a great stop to read a newspaper, which are kept neatly on individual racks. The service is excellent. And they'll even allow strollers if you want to bring a child along.
