Cititour Review:
It was time to kick off my vacation and what better spot to kick it off than with a drink at Grayz, Chef Gray Kunz's tapas spot across from the Museum of Modern Art on West 54th Street. And the place is a work of art, tucked inside a townhouse with its swirling ceiling, leather banquettes and a sturdy wooden bar.

When we arrived, the bar was filled with couples and singles mingling and chatting, while sipping on some pretty potent cocktails. Grayz is a classy spot, not stuffy. It's also a place to endulge, so be prepared for some potent prices. Drinks here will set you back $14, but are well worth it. I started with "The Fall of Mussolini," a flavorful and somehwhat fruity cocktail made with Appleton VX Rum, Carpano Antica Formulae, homemade grenadine, Tripium Triple-Sec and one speared cherry at the bottom of the glass. It was delightul! As was the "Hemingway Daiquiri," which had a more citrusy, summer feel to it. It's made with Bacardi 8, lime juice, a dash of grapefruit and marachino. Hemingway reportedly drank them at El Floridita and Old Havana, two of his drinking haunts in Cuba.

You'll only have to travel to the West 50s to find them. Now, isn't that a wonderful way to start a vacation.

Details:
There's a glamorous new spot for cocktails and nibbles in mid-Manhattan. Grayz is located inside a maticulously restored 1800's townhouse, complete with exposed brick and four fireplaces. There's also a wine celler and a "harvest wall" of greenery on the private dining level.

Nibbles by noted Chef Gray Kunz include skewers of grilled Hawaiian blue prawns topped with a marinade of kimchee, pear and ginger and served with a kaffir remoulade. Kunz's take on Crispy Calamari features baby squids dredged in a graham cracker and cream of wheat coating, then quickly fried in grape seed oil and served with a chutney of preserved lemons, spices and honey.

Aside from an extensive wine list (Grayz has a two story wall of wines), designer cocktails and a large selection of champagnes are also offered. One of the signiture drinks is the Rockefeller Manhattan made with Knob Creek Bourbon, Averna Amaro, Brandied Cherry Juice, Orange Twist, Orange Juice and Brandied Cherries ($18).

So the next time you interested in a special night out, you might want to consider a stop at Grayz!
