Chef PJ Calapa (The Spaniard, Ai Fiori) is taking a fresh approach to Italian classics with Scampi, his new spot in the Flatiron District focusing on the cuisines of southern and coastal Italy. There is Mafadini Shrimp Scampi with parsley, butter and lemon. Calapa plans to add additional scampi variations monthly. Other large and small plates pay homage to Italy's coastal waters, dishes like Tuna Acqua Pazza, tuna tartare with tomato, cucumber and chilies, aalong with Razor and Manila Clams with fennel, chives and prosciutto. Hearty plates include Braised Pork Ragu Ravioli and Ribeye with fingerling potatoes, salsa verde and arugula. The wine list features 100 Southern Italian wines with many bottles under $60. Desserts include classic cannolis and Semifredo with dried apricot, pistachio and chocolate. A full bar, communal seating and intimate dining room await at Scampi.
