Minton's Playhouse is reopening 30 years after the legendary Harlem jazz club closed its doors. In it's heyday, Thelonius Monk, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman and Dizzy Gillespie all jammed at Minton's, known as the "birthplace of bebop." Owner Earl Spain, who reportedly spent $300,000 to renovate the space, has done a great job restoring the club, which still has its original mural over the stage. The club officially reopens to the public this Friday, but Cititour got a sneak peak. The club, located a few blocks from the Apollo in the Cecil Hotel, will also bring back the jam sessions that made Minton's famous!

Enter 230 Fifth avenue, a somewhat tired looking building, walk to the rear, turn left and take one of four rather drab, tight elevators to the 20th floor and enter a new world that starts with a spiffy new penthouse lounge complete with cushy blue banquettes and floor to ceiling windows. But don't be surprised if that's not where the action is (at least in warmer weather). Instead, walk up one more flight of stairs to a sprawling rooftop bar filled with all sorts of happy people having a very good time!

Not since Houdini has a magic act generated this much buzz. David Blaine creating quite a spectacle at Lincoln Center, where the magician will remain submerged in a giant water-filled bubble for one week with the help of a breathing tube. Acrobats did their tricks outside the giant orb as drummers drummed and the crowd cheered Blaine on, including a wedding party during our visit. We haven't yet figured out how he plans to relieve himself. But maybe some things are better left unsaid.
