The winners of the 2023 Drama League Awards were announced on Friday, May 19 at a star-studded ceremony at The Ziegfeld Ballroom (141 W 54th Street).
Annaleigh Ashford won the Distinguished Performance Award for her work as Mrs. Lovett in “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.” Ashford’s previous Broadway credits include “Kinky Boots,” “You Can’t Take It with You” and “Sylvia”
“Leopoldstadt” took home the Award for Outstanding Production of a Play, while “A Doll’s House” won for Outstanding Revival of a Play. In addition, “Some Like It Hot” was named for Outstanding Production of a Musical and “Into the Woods” won the award for Outstanding Revival of a Musical.
In the directing categories, Anne Kauffman took home the Outstanding Direction of a Play award for “The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window.” Meanwhile, Lear deBessonet took home Outstanding Direction of a Musical for “Into the Woods,” making her a dual winner as she was also honored with the Founders Award for Excellence in Directing.
