75th Annual Tony Awards Announce Nominations

Nominations have been announced for the 75th Annual Tony Awards, which will take place at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, June 12. The show, which will air on the CBS Television Network and stream live and on demand on Paramount+, will be hosted by Oscar winner Ariana DeBose.

On the musical side, six shows were nominated for Best Musical, including “A Strange Loop” (11), “MJ” (10) and “Paradise Square” (10). Only three of the four eligible musical revivals were given nominations: “Company” (9), “The Music Man” (6) and “Caroline or Change” (3). The fourth revived show, “Funny Girl,” received a single nomination for Best Featured Actor, Jared Grimes.

As for plays, “The Lehman Trilogy” (8) received the most nominations, with all three of its stars, Simon Russell Beale, Adam Godley and Adrian Lester, being recognized for Best Actor in a Play. On the revival side, top vote getters included “for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf” (7), “The Skin of Our Teeth” (6) and “Take Me Out” (4), which received Best Featured Actor nominations for Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Michael Oberholtzer, and Jesse Williams.

Other performers recognized for their work this year include Uzo Aduba, Alfie Allen, Gabby Beans, Billy Crystal, Sharon D. Clarke, Matt Doyle, Rachel Dratch, Sutton Foster, Myles Frost, Hugh Jackman, LaChanze, Patti LuPone, Rob McLure, David Morse, Deirdre O’Connell, Mary-Louise Parker, Phylicia Rashad, Sam Rockwell, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Jennifer Simard, Jaquel Spivey, Mare Winningham and Julie White.
