Tucked away on the second floor of Gage & Tollner in Downtown Brooklyn, visitors will discover The Sunken Harbor Club. This hideaway resembles an old pirate ship with an image of a mermaid peering from behind a whimsical captain’s window. A small bar seats just six people while curvy banquettes are perfect for conversation. Sixties surfer tunes can be heard playing in the background.
Tiki-style drinks and bites for sharing are available. The food menu includes an excellent Wedge Salad with Iceberg, Great Hill Blue Cheese, Candied Bacon, Cherry Tomatoes, and Pickled Shallots, along with Devils on Horseback (dates, smoked almonds, and bacon), and Roasted Tomatoes with chive-lemon goat cheese for slathering on toasted focaccia.
Cocktails come with names like Wave Break, a mojito with Panamanian rum and vermouth, laced with cucumber, peach, and lemon verbena served on pebble ice; High Seas Shakedown with Javanese and Caribbean rums, French quinquina, and hot pepper-mala flavors; and a traditional Mai Tai with a blend of three rums, almond, orange, and mint. All that’s missing is a tropical breeze.
