Around Town - Balthazar Booming, Garden of Love Returns, Dioramas and more...

Balthazar is booming. If you are thinking about eating at Keith McNally's French bistro (80 Spring St) which recently reopened in SoHo, better get on line. Outdoor, curbside and indoor were all buzzing as we passed by on a Tuesday night.
The palms are up at Gitano’s “Garden of Love” near Canal Street. The tropical paradise is a seasonal outdoor gathering mecca where you can nosh on small plates while sipping cocktails in the heart of the concrete jungle. Preview reservations are now open.
Workers and tourists are slowly returning to Midtown as more people get vaccinated. We spotted a decent crowd in the front dining room at Salt Bae’s Nusr-Et Steakhouse (60 West 53rd St) where you grab a Tomahawk Steak and some baklava with ice cream.
A few blocks away, Brazilian steakhouse, Churrascaria Plataforma (316 W 49 St), is open again indoor and outdoor seating for all-you-can-eat meat. Just don’t work yourself into a meat coma.
The West End Bar & Grill (813 8th Ave), a popular watering hole, is also open offering signature frozen cocktails, including frozen pina coladas, mango & watermelon margaritas, and passion fruit mojitos.
Restaurants are getting inventive at drawing in customers, like this street art steering people to a Taco Dumbo (114 W 47 St) in Midtown.
Say goodbye to those Cuomo tacos. Governor Cuomo continues to ease restrictions remaining restrictions for restaurants, including ending the food and beverage service curfew. Bar seating will also be allowed and and no food requirement for drinks. Cheers!
44 Union Square, also known as the Tammany Hall Building, has “for rent” signs up after completing a massive renovation that includes a 3-story rooftop with glass turtle shell grid dome.
At Rockefeller Center you can step into two Dioramas by artist-designers Tin Nguyen and Ed Cutting. The “Life Forces” allows passersby to interact with 3D simulations on large LED screens encased in windows. See how it works here.
Speaking of fun and games… LES pool hall Sour Mouse (110 Delancey St) is offering Happy Hour Monday thru Friday from 3pm-6pm, including an hour of free ping pong with a beer pitcher purchase.
And have you seen this? Avant-garde artist KAWS has a larger than life pink "BFF" statue in the lobby of a Park Avenue office building.
Until next time, we’ll see you Around Town!
