Billy Joel Ends Residency at Madison Square Garden after 150 Performances

It’s the end of an era for the Piano Man. Singer Billy Joel ending his ending his 10-year residency at the Garden after 150 performances Thursday night. It comes nearly 50 years after his first show at The Garden on December 14, 1978

Joel holds both of MSG’s performance-related records – for “most lifetime performances by any artist,” which, after tonight, stands at 150; and for “most consecutive performances by any artist,” which, after tonight, stands at 104.

Madison Square Garden celebrated the historic run with a new “Defining Moments” exhibit on the sixth-floor concourse of memorabilia from the residency and a merch pop-up in Chase Square, as well as a fan photo activation and “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant” themed concessions.

During the show, comedian and television host Jimmy Fallon raised the final banner to the rafters. Each fan in attendance also received a commemorative mini “Billy Joel 150” banner.
