Michelin-starred Chef Daniel Boulud has opened his first French bistro in Lower Manhattan. Le Gratin at The Beekman is inspired by the bouchons and bistros of Chef Daniel's hometown of Lyon, France, known for their welcoming ambiance and soulful cuisine.
Le Gratin’s Executive Chef, Guillaume Ginther, is a native of Strasbourg, France and formerly of Restaurant Daniel and Le Coq Rico Bistro in New York. With techniques and experience rooted in modern and traditional French cuisine, Guillaume's menu showcases beloved French classics from Chef Daniel’s childhood, with seasonal flavors.
Dishes include Crabe Marie Rose, Jumbo Lump Crab, Boston Lettuce, Pink Grapefruit, Avocado, and French Cocktail Sauce; Oeuf Mimosa, Caviar De Truite, Deviled Egg, Trout Caviar; Moules Frites Sauce Poulette, Bang Island Mussels, Saffron Cream, and French Fries; Côte De Boeuf Grillée Au Romarin, Sauce Béarnaise, 30 oz. Grilled Prime Black Angus Beef Chop with Rosemary; and Half or Whole Spit Roasted Label Rouge Chicken, Garlic Jus, DB's Mother's Potato Gratin.
Desserts by Executive Pastry Chef Kristyn Onasch, an alum of Boulud Sud, include an Apricot Tart with Pistachio Ice Cream, Chocolate Coffee Cake with 3 Chocolate Mousse, and Cream Puff with Roasted Plum and Chantilly.
The wine list boasts more than 100 offerings, with a focus on the wine radius around Lyon, including Beaujolais, Maconnais, Côte de Vienne and Collines Rhôdaniennes. Featured among the cocktails are L'Orange with Rhum Jm, Lemon, Orange, and Orange Bell Pepper; and La Tempête with El Dorado 12 Yr Rum, Lemon, Strawberry, Ginger, Salers.
Le Gratin’s interior design transports guests to the bright and boisterous bistros of France. Marble floors, wooden chairs, and cigar-colored banquettes. Decorative painted tiles adorn the walls featuring garden flowers and playful cockatoos while coffered ceilings and mirrored walls that make the space feel bright and airy. The restaurant can be found in the heart of the Financial District just steps away from City Hall, the Fulton transit hub, the Oculus at World Trade Center, Tribeca and revitalized Seaport District.
Le Gratin is located at 5 Beekman Street, New York, NY (212) 597-9020
