Petite Patate is the exciting new neighborhood French bistro from acclaimed chef Greg Baxtrom (also of Olmsted, Patti Ann’s and Five Acres). The restaurant is housed in the former Maison Yaki space at 626 Vanderbilt Avenue in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn.
At Petite Patate, Baxtrom is offering creative takes on classic French bistro fare – from French Onion Soup to Escargot to Steak Frites Steak, and more – showcasing ingredients from local farmers and purveyors.
Playfully named after Greg’s beloved dog Spud, Petite Patate (or “small potato”) features plush red leather bar seats, a reinvisioned backyard patio and bar, and timeless design elements like wicker chairs, cafe curtains, and vintage Art Nouveau posters.
Digging deeper into the menu, diners will find dishes like Fried Cornichons with Roasted Garlic Aioli, Duck Liver Toast with roasted beets and honey, Soft Fried Eggs Frisée Salad with warm bacon vinaigrette shared tableside, and Bubbling Raclette served with duck fat potatoes.
Entrées include Burger au Poivre, Mussels a la Bouillabaisse, Duck Confit Pasta Coq au Vin, and Steak Frites with a warm bone marrow sauce. The dessert menu, created by pastry chef Alessandra Altieri Lopez, formerly of Thomas Keller’s Bouchon and Per Se, includes Profiteroles and a Frangipane Tart.
Beverage Director Andrew Zerrip is offering Brooklyn takes on classic cocktails with French twists like the Suze Spritz featuring the iconic French aperitif made with gentian root; French 75 with gin from Brooklyn-based Breuckelen Distillery; and a Vesper Martini. Wines are available in ½ bottle carafe sizes, and the bottle list will be exclusively French wines.
The standout space evokes the feel of Baxtrom’s favorite French bistros with an arched royal blue storefront with a pinstriped awning and café curtains. The 48-seat dining room is decorated with French cookbooks, and Maison Yaki’s beloved “Oui Chef” sign, now hanging by the front door. Front facing windows open onto the streets in warmer weather, while an enclosed backyard patio and bar is open year-round.
Petite Patate is open for dinner from 5pm - 10pm. Reservations are available on Resy, and tables are held for walk-ins nightly. For more information, visit petitepatatenyc.com
