Debra Messing to Headline Broadway's Birthday Candles

Emmy Award winner Debra Messing will star in the New York premiere of “Birthday Candles,” by Noah Haidle, which will run at the Roundabout Theatre Company’s American Airlines Theatre from March 18 to May 29.

The play, to be directed by Vivienne Benesch, focuses on Ernestine Ashworth (Messing), who spends her 17th birthday agonizing over her insignificance in the universe. Soon enough, it’s her 18th birthday. Even sooner, her 41st. Then her 70th and then her 101st.

The cast will also feature John Earl Jelks, Enrico Colantoni, Crystal Finn, Susannah Flood and Christopher Livingston.

Messing is best known for her role as Grace on NBC’s “Will & Grace,” She was last seen on Broadway in John Patrick Shanley's “Outside Mullingar” and also starred Off-Broadway in “Collected Stories” and “Four Dogs and a Bone.” Her other TV series include “SMASH” and “The Mysteries of Laura.”
