FONDA Opens New location in Tribeca

FONDA, the popular Mexican spot by Chef/Owner Roberto Santibañez, is expanding to Tribeca with a new location on Duane Street. The beautifully re-designed space builds on the brand’s festive colors with custom metallic screens that reference Mexican craft tinwork, brightly-colored banquettes and lively bar.

FONDA’s food is deeply rooted in tradition and refined culinary techniques from Mexico, including street snacks and riffs on regional specialties with an array of salsas, adobos, and moles. Start with blue crab croquettes served with three sauces - avocado serrano, pickled jalapeño mayo and habanero roasted tomato; and Zarape de Parto, soft corn tortillas filled with braised duck with roasted tomato-habanero cream sauce. Diners will also find shareable plates of assorted taquitos as well as lively salads.

Other offerings include Enchiladas de Mole filled with braised chicken and topped with stone ground Oaxacan black mole, queso fresco, cilantro and sesame seeds; Birria, slow-braised beef in a guajillo birria broth; Seared Jumbo Shrimp simmered in a creamy lime-jalapeno sauce over spinach green rice; and Crispy Fish Tacos served with a house salad. A full vegetarian menu is also available.

There's also a lengthy cocktail list featuring classic margaritas and agave based drinks made with fresh, house-made juices and infusions. Options include the Rosalita, a signature frozen hibiscus margarita with silver tequila, hibiscus, orange liquor, lime juice, and hibiscus rim; and the Tamarindo with Tamarind, Cuervo Tradicional silver, orange liquor, lime juice, and pasilla rim. The bar’s deep selection of spirits (also offered in flights) explores the subtelties of a myriad of tequilas and mezcals on display.
