It’s hard to believe that September is right around the corner. And in New York City’s Little Italy neighborhood it will soon be time for the Feast of San Gennaro. This year’s feast will be held from September 14th through September 24th.

There is no better place to get a feel and taste of Italian culture than walking with the throngs of Italian Americans, tourists and New Yorkers alike on Mulberry Street sampling freshly-cooked calamari, clams on the half shell, giant sausage sandwiches, zeppoles and of course, the must-have ricotta-cream filled cannoli.

While there you can play some games of chance or stop into one of the numerous restaurants and bars lining the routg which often set up outdoor seating for this one-of-a-kind event.

Key dates to watch this year are September 16th when the the Great Procession honoring Saint Gennaro from 2-4pm and September 19th when the Solemn High Mass celebrating the patron Saint of Naples is held at 6pm at the Shrine Church of the Most Precious Blood on 113 Baxter Street, between Canal and Hester Street.

This year’s Grand Marshall will be actress Kathrine Narducci, an Italian-American with roots in Naples, Italy. She is best known for her role as Charmaine Bucco on the Emmy Award winning HBO series, ‘The Sopranos’.
