INSIDE TRIBECA'S ONE WHITE STREET
August 9, 2021, 6:34.35 pm ET
Historic TriBeCa townhouse, One White Street, is now home to a restaurant serving progressive American cuisine from Chef Austin Johnson, formerly of Frenchie in Paris and partner Dustin Wilson, the former wine director at Eleven Madison Park. One White Street also has an historical musical past. It was once used by John Lennon and Yoko Ono to announce the creation of a conceptual country, called Nutopia, free of boundaries and welcome to everyone. Lennon was facing possible deportation at the time for a 1968 marijuana convicition in Britain, according to the New York Times.
The food at One White Street will also show no boundaries with dishes like roasted tomato focaccia; Summer Vegetables with sorrel hummus, and whipped ricotta; cured fluke with smoked tomato, green olive and citrus; grilled scallop skewers with summer squash, pumpkin seeds; and 60-day dry aged strip loin with bone marrow jus, sprouting broccoli and haricot vert.
The wine program includes a generous selection of Old and New World wines from makers who favor a sustainable approach to winemaking, with an emphasis on classics, hard-to-find bottles and under-the-radar gems.

Wilson and Johnson worked closely with the San Francisco-based designer Richard Felix-Ashman to turn each floor of the townhouse into an intimate but lively dining space. Each dining room has its own open kitchen, giving a sense of domesticity that plays on the building’s residential scale. Individual floors are also available to be reserved for private gatherings. The first floor and outdoor dining rooms are open for walk-in seating only, Sunday to Thursday from 5 to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 5 to 11 p.m. Second and third floors are available by reservation only.
