Inside the Stylish New Penny Hotel in Williamsburg

Penny Williamsburg (288 N 8th St, Brooklyn) is the newest concept by Sydell Group, known for hotel brands like NoMad, LINE, and Freehand. Penny is Sydell’s first hybrid hotel geared toward short term and longer stays in an intimate apartment-style setting. Penny is also playful, reflecting the spirit of the neighborhood.

The hotel is also collaborating with two local, non-profit community arts organizations - LAND Gallery and Pure Vision Arts – showcasing works from artists with developmental disabilities in its ground floor gallery. Additionally, the property features installations by Yuko Nishikawa and other local artists.

Another essential element in the hotel’s design is an extensive plantscape by acclaimed Brooklyn landscape design studio, Verdant. From cascading greenery on the exterior façade to a terrace meadow to plants in every guest room, the property is designed with a green thumb sensibility.

Each of the 118 guest rooms at Penny Williamsburg are comfortable and thoughtfully designed, with residential views of Williamsburg. Guests can choose from a selection of room layouts from Niche Queen to Supreme Queen and a spacious loft-style Suite sprawling 700 square-feet with a Queen bedroom, large bathroom with a soaking tub, living and dining areas, a kitchen and a large private terrace. Room rates start at $200; the suite starts at $1,100 and up.

Located on the 11th Floor of Penny Williamsburg is the new rooftop bar and restaurant, elNico, a lively gathering space for guests and locals alike. The rooftop offers extensive indoor and outdoor space, two private terraces with stunning panoramic views of the Williamsburg and Manhattan skylines and a menu of imaginative Mexican cuisine executed by emerging Chef Fernanda Serrano, accompanied by a craft cocktail program led by James Beard Award-winning author and beverage director Leo Robitschek.
