“Ain’t Done Bad,” a hybrid theatrical dance experience conceived, directed, and choreographed by Jakob Karr and featuring the music of country star Orville Peck, will play a limited engagement at The Pershing Square Signature Center from July 9 to August 31. It is presented by the Renaissance Theatre Company.
The 90-minute piece, which features Karr along with 10 other dancers, tells the powerful heartwarming story of coming out, falling in love, and finding one’s true voice as a queer person in the South.
“I am deeply inspired by the work of Orville Peck,” says Karr, who is best known for his work on the TV show “So You Think You Can Dance.” As members of the queer community, he and I have a shared experience that we can best express through our art. I created the show in reverence to the journey of coming out and his music speaks volumes to the things I felt as a young kid trying to discover who I was and who I could be."
