When Top Thai moved out of its tiny Bay Ridge location near 86th Street and Fourth Avenue, the new restaurant had some very big shoes to fill and Lan Thai delivers.

We stopped in for a bite and found the food to be quite good, from the Thai Papaya Salad (also known as Som Tum Salad) piled high with green papaya, a healthy scattering of peanuts, tomato and long green beans with spicy That dressing with hints of fish sauce to the Chicken Satay, grilled chicken skewers that were quite large served with a zippy peanut sauce and cucumber salad.

Curry dishes make for a warming meal like the Panyang Curry with hints of cumin, coriander and dried chili peppers. We had it topped with plump shrimp, but chicken, tofu and duck are listed among the other offerings. The Green Curry is equally as good served in a creamy coconut sauce.

Chef Specials include dishes like Crab Meat Fried Rice; Kang Pet Ped Yang with roasted duck in a red curry coconut sauce with pineapple, tomato, jalapeno and basil leaves; and Grilled Skirt Steak with a spicy Esan sauce.

The Flavors of Thailand shine through at Lan Thai located at 8510 4th Avenue, Brooklyn. For more information, visit lanthai.rest
