The Mermaid Inn is branching out. The team of Danny Abrams and Cindy Smith are adding Mexican to the menu with the arrival of Mermaid Mexicana, down the block from the Mermaid Oyster Bar on MacDougal Street. Chef Victor Marin, who hails from Morelos, Mexico is serving a blend of modern and classic Mexican dishes ranging from street tacos to several seafood-forward dishes.
Start with Mexican-style shrimp cocktail, tuna tostada or guacamole & chips with chicharron and pepita. Tacos include birria, pastor and baja fish with red cabbage and cilantro ranch. Larger plates bring carne asada with skirt steak, charred tomatillo and queso fresco, and whole roasted Idaho trout with guajillo aioli and charred lemon.
A curated cocktail list includes classic and frozen margaritas, along with signature drinks like Feel the Burn (mezcal, aloe vera liqueur, watermelon, lime), and The Jet Setter (mezcal, sotol, orange-scented simple syrup, lime, hibiscus-chili salt rim). Mermaid’s signature Happy Hour is also offered daily.
Mermaid Mexicana is located at 79 MacDougal St, New York, NY (212) 400-8800
