If you have never experienced parrillada, also known as a mixed grill, you don't know what you are missing. Traditionally from Argentina and Uruguay, parrillada is an assortment of grilled meats cooked over a charcoal fire and often served tableside on a mini grill. La Gran Uruguya Restaurant & Bar offers a superb example of parrillada in Jackson Heights, Queens. It includes skirt steak, short ribs, chorizo (sausage), chinchullines (aka intestines), mollejas (sweetbreads or thymus gland) and morcilla (blood sausage). The meats are all well seasoned and cooked to perfection. Some of the organ meats might be an acquired taste, but if you are feeling adventurous, go for it.
La Gran Uruguaya is loctated at 85-02 37th Ave, Jackson Heights, NY (718) 505-0400
