“This Is Broadway,” a historic initiative to welcome theater lovers back to Times Square following the industry’s 18-month shut down, is being released on August 30.

Kicking off the campaign is a 2 ½ minute short film, narrated by Oprah Winfrey, that celebrates all of Broadway. The film features such superstars as Hugh Jackman, Bruce Springsteen, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Sara Bareilles, Billy Porter, Angela Lansbury, Ethel Merman, James Earl Jones and Denzel Washington and includes footage from 99 Broadway shows.

Other elements of the campaign include the creation of thisisbroadway.org, a new website that features a unique recommendation engine built on five years of data including the performance of 220 shows, 17 million ticket sales across the Northeast corridor, current safety information, and real time updates regarding Broadway’s return.

In addition, the Broadway League is launching a first-of-its-kind contest: in which one lucky winner will win four tickets to every Broadway show in the 2021-2022 season. The contest will be hosted by Audience Rewards and is free to enter. The contest will run from September1 through October 15. Visit https://www.audiencerewards.com/ for details.

Finally, the League has also announced “Curtain Up,” a free festival that will include interactive experiences, panels, live concerts, and performances culminating in a concert celebrating the entirety of the Broadway industry in the heart of Times Square., that will take place Friday, September 17 through Sunday, September 19.
