Fans of authentic Mexican cuisine will enjoy a meal at Aleli Mexican Restaurant in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. The spacious interior may feel minimalist, save for a striking mural that adds a splash of color, but the real vibrancy here is on the plate.
Start with their traditional guacamole, a classic that can be kicked up with jalapeños if you're craving heat, or kept mild for a more soothing experience. The Shrimp Aguachile, Mexico’s spicier take on ceviche, is a must-try. Served with tortilla chips, the fresh shrimp swim in a zesty citrus broth with crisp cucumber, creamy avocado, corn, cilantro, and radish. For a different kind of crunch, the Octopus Tostada is another popular pick.
Aleli’s tacos are plentiful, packed with bold fillings and sauces. Standouts include the Steak with chile de árbol sauce, the Chorizo with morita sauce, and the Carnitas with salsa verde. At just $5 each, they’re as affordable as they are flavorful.
The mole at Aleli is a standout, a recipe passed down through four generations. It shines in the Chicken Enchiladas, offering a rich, complex flavor that’s hard to beat. The Pan-Fried Branzino, served with yellow mole (mole Amarillo), a specialty from Oaxaca, is another winner, with its crispy skin and bed of fresh vegetables. For something heartier, the Short Ribs with Mole Rojo are so tender they practically melt in your mouth. Finish with a traditional flan, topped with puffed amaranth for a delightful crunch.
No meal is complete without one of Aleli's expertly crafted margaritas, whether you prefer the classic or tropical variations like mango, tamarind, or passion fruit. They’re also available by the pitcher for a group affair. Mezcal lovers will appreciate the smoky kick in the La Torno, made with grapefruit, honey, and chile de árbol for a touch of spice.
Whether you're stopping by for a quick taco and drink at the bar or indulging in a full Mexican feast, Aleli delivers on every front. Located at 7804 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge, it's a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Mexican flavors in a laid-back setting.
