It is not often that the pop-up replaces the restaurant where it first popped up. Such is the case of Rome’s legendary Salumeria Roscioli which has officially replaced Niche Niche in a classic townhouse on MacDougal Street, making it the first outpost of Roscioli outside of Italy.

The Roscioli family business began in 1972 with Antico Forno Roscioli, a 19th-century bakery on Rome’s Via dei Chiavari. The iconic establishment, known for its pizza bianca and pizza rossa, was followed by Salumeria Roscioli two decades later. Today, they feature 300 cheeses, 200 cured meats and shelves lined with jars of highest-quality sauces, honeys and more, and oversee a wine cellar with over 2,500 bottles.

Roscioli NYC offers two different experiences. Downstairs is a dinner party and wine-tasting room, plus a private wine cellar featuring a 16-person table for elevated tastings which can be paired with specialty products as well and a lounge for cocktails and further wine exploration.

The two nightly dinner seatings feature a rotating seasonal menu with wine pairings based on Greenmarket offerings and market selections sent from Italy, such as a summery panzanella made with fresh Calabrian and semi-dried cherry tomatoes in oil sent from Puglia.

Upstairs – which has just opened – is the delicatessen and wine bar centered in a bright, open space filled with a wide selection of cheeses, meats, smoked fish, caviar, vegetables in oil, and conserve. On the menu, visitors will find Roman specialties as supplì alla Romana (mozzarella-filled rice balls) and polpette al sugo con ricotta stagionata (meatballs with tomato sauce and aged ricotta).

Pasta classics like carbonara, cacio e pepe, amatriciana and gricia and be enjoyed with wines by the glass or bottle, some imported directly by Roscioli, along with beers, collaborative amaros, and spritzes.

Roscioli is located at 43 Macdougal St., New York, NY. For more information, visit rosciolinyc.com
