SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK ANNOUNCES CASTING AND DATES FOR MERRY WIVES

The Public Theater’s much-loved Shakespeare in the Park will return this summer with “Merry Wives,” a fresh and joyous adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “Merry Wives of Windsor,” written by Jocelyn Bioh and directed by Saheem Ali. It will run July 6 through September 18.

Set in South Harlem, amidst a vibrant and eclectic community of West African immigrants, the play is a New York story about tricks of the heart, This hilarious farce tells the story of the trickster Falstaff and the wily wives who outwit him in a new celebration of Black joy, laughter, and vitality. The production will run 90 minutes.

The show’s cast will feature Abena, Shola Adewusi, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Pascale Armand, MaYaa Boateng, Phillip James Brannon, Brandon E. Burton, Joshua Echebiri, Branden Lindsay, Ebony Marshall-Oliver, Jarvis D. Matthews, Jacob Ming-Trent, Jennifer Mogbock, Julian Rozzell Jr., Kyle Scatliffe, David Ryan Smith, and Susan Kelechi Watson.

As of this writing, the theater’s capacity will be limited for social distancing between seating for both vaccinated and non-vaccinated people along with additional requirements for mask wearing, and proof of vaccination or proof of negative tests prior to entry.

For this production, free tickets will be distributed entirely via an advanced digital lottery hosted by GOLDSTAR. Audiences can enter the lottery through the Goldstar app on Apple, Android, and the website each Tuesday and Friday, one week prior to the next week’s scheduled performances.
