As part of a celebration honoring Eward Hopper’s Birthday on July 22nd, several of the artists paintings are being brought to life literally by the Whitney Museum and the Meatpacking BID.

“Step Into Hopper” in Meatpacking’s Gansevoort Plaza will feature large-scale, 3-D interactive installations on Gansevoort Plaza from July 19-22. Visitors will be able to step inside recreations of three of Hopper’s most recognizable pieces to pose and create their own interpretations of the works with the help of live performers.

Featured installations include:

Nighthawks - Take a seat inside Hopper’s iconic diner scene, complete with a live barista serving coffee from a neighborhood vendor on Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21, from 11 a.m. onward while supplies last.

Soir Bleu - Transporting visitors into Hopper’s introspective take on French café culture, a clown performer will be present on Friday, July 19, Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21 to set the scene.

Early Sunday Morning - Step off the bustling streets of present-day New York City and into the stillness of this portrait of Seventh Avenue in the 1930s.

Soir Bleu and Early Sunday Morning are currently on view at the Whitney for those who want to view the original paintings. On July 20, the museum will be hosting their annual “Hopper Day” celebration which will include the second annual Whitney Hopper Ride, a 60-mile round-trip bike ride from the Meatpacking District to Hopper’s birthplace of Nyack, New York.
