As live theater begins to return to NYC, this weekly column will keep you up to date on the newest offerings.
“My Cyrano”, a modern improvisational adaptation of Edmond Rostand’s classic play “Cyrano de Bergerac” -- featuring extracts from Tanya Lebedinskaya’s poem “My Cyrano” – is being presented in Russian with English supertitles at The Center at West Park (125 West 86th Street) on June 11 and 12. The show, which blends musical, dance, and theatrical performance, includes music by hard-rock band The Blackfires and Grammy-winning Baroque musician Jordi Savall. The Downtown Urban Arts Festival will feature works from 16 playwrights at the Abron Arts Center (466 Grand Street, New York City) from Thursday, June 10 through Saturday, June 26. In honor of Gay Pride Month, INTAR (500 West 52nd Street) is presenting an outdoor production of “Oso Fabuloso & The Bear Backs!” on June 12 .The show, which has book and lyrics by C. Julian Jiménez with music by P.K. Variance, focuses on a Queer Latino bear named Oso Fabuloso (played by Jimenez), who has recently been dumped by a two-timing daddy bear.
