If you haven’t been to the Seaport District recently, you don’t know what you are missing. Jean Georges seafood palace, The Fulton, got the ball rolling before the pandemic hit. Now, the place is buzzing with lots of new activity.

Sunday in Brooklyn has popped up in a large space on Fulton Street and is perpetually packed. While known for its brunch (avocado toast, Sunday pancakes, biscuits and gravy and more), the Seaport location also serves dinner and cocktails with plenty of outdoor seating. They should make the pop-up permanent.

Across the way (actually in the middle of the cobblestone street) is MakiTiki (top), a new open-air bar with lush tropical greenery and wicker orbs lights dangling above. The place is serving up tiki drinks with names like Breezy Tiger and Enter Through The Tea Shop. Even the staff is appropriately dressed in Hawaiian shirts. Because of the cobblestones, outdoor seating is achieved with the help colorful milk crates.

Not too far away at Pier 17 people are already lining up for seasonal rooftop concerts. You can also have your private little lawn at the Greens. Visitors will also find chef Andrew Carmelini’s seaside chophouse Carne Mare with outdoor seating for dining al fresco.

Nearby you also find the Momofuku Ssam Bar. After a delayed opening, the place is buzzing for cocktails and bites. The Psycho Beach Party packs a punch, while a frozen colada offers icy goodness with swirls of dark rum running through it and topped with a dried pineapple slice. One eye-catching dish on the bar menu is the Grilled Prawns with ‘nudja butter on a bed of leaks. It is easy to navigate and so delicious.

Dante, the award-winning Apertivo bar, has taken over Pearl Alley with its towering ceilings, huge lamps and sweeping views of the Brooklyn Bridge. The main attraction is the Negroni Bar. Bites include mussels escabeche served in a tin, freshly shucked oysters, salads, pastas and pizza.

And the best is yet to come. The Tin Building, which replaced the original Fulton Fish Market, which sadly burned down, features a 53,000 square foot marketplace curated by Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. Locally sources seafood, meats, cheeses and fresh produce will be offered. The Tin Building will also house six full-service restaurants, six fast-casual outlets and three bars. If you are looking for a job we noticed they have a lot of positions available right now.
