To find this pizzeria you will need to travel to Dyker Heights in Brooklyn where Krispy Pizza has been operating for more than 50 years. While family members have branched out with several locations in New Jersey, this is the original on 72nd Street and 13th Avenue.

Here you will find people lining up day and night for one of the biggest selections of pizza sold by the slice and whole in the borough. All of them, especially the Sicilian pies, live up to that crispy thin crust.

Brothers Vinny, Tony, Freddy and Al all grew up operating the family business. Freddy still oversees the Brooklyn location started by his father, Peter Pallazzola, in 1967. And over the years has added his stamp as more flavors were added.

They credit their success to using the ingredients – fresh mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil and lots of basil. Tony Pallazzola, in a Facebook post, says it’s all about consistency, “the customers are not dumb, they know when something changes or something’s not right.”

Popular pies include the Trio with mozzarella, pesto sauce, vodka sauce, marinara sauce; mozzarella, tomato sauce, cup pepperoni, hot honey; Spicy Vodka with spicy vodka sauce, fresh mozzarella, cup pepperoni, hot honey; Grandma with Fresh Mozzarella, Tomato Sauce, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Basil; The Palermo which has bottom layer of fresh mozzarella cheese slices and topped with pizetta sauce/sweet onion sauce, oregano and grated cheese; among others. There are also seasonal pies like the one we tasted topped with summer zucchini and caramelized onions.

Aside from pizza the restaurant is also serving up heroes – Chicken Parm, Sausage Veal and Potato & Egg - to name a few, baked lasagna, rice balls, fried calamari and more.

Everything we tasted at Krispy Pizza was amazing and worthy of a visit even if you are not from the neighborhood.
