Around Town – Ferdi's Aperitivo Hour, The Noortwyck Does Brunch, and a Mezcal Festival

Starting Thursday, 9/15, Ferdi is hosting Aperitivo Hour on Thursdays and Fridays between 3pm and 6pm available at the bar and their expansive outdoor seating area. Among the menu highlights - Cheese & Salumi Plate; Arancini and Fritto Misto and a selection of $10 dollar cocktails. Cocktails include the Nero Chinato Spritz (muddled blackberries, fresh lemon juice, cocchi americano and prosecco); La Strega Spritz (strega Italian bitters liquor, cognac, cappelletti amaro, fresh lemon juice & prosecco); Amarena Spritz (brandied cherries, Modena balsamic, punt e mes vermouth and prosecco); and The Ferdi Americano (Campari, club and Italicus bergamot liqueur).

Executive Chef Tomohiro “Tomo” Urata is offering a new a La carte menu at MIFUNE showcasing his signature style of creatively blending French and Japanese cuisine that encompasses influences from his work in Japan and at some of the top restaurants in France. Menu options include Pan-Seared Turbot with a sweet potato terrine in yuzu miso sauce, and Duck Leg Confit in a mustard cream sauce served with grilled vegetables. On Tuesdays, Chef Tomo hosts a weekly popup called Chef Tomo’s Kitchen, an intimate eight-course chef’s counter tasting experience featuring dishes like Abalone steamed in sake for two hours then fried in butter. Seatings are at 5:30pm and 8:30pm.

To to celebrate National Cheeseburger Day (9/18), Leroy’s is showcasing a one-day-only Burger Combo. The New American neighborhood bistro and cocktail bar in Greenpoint, Brooklyn is led by chef-partners Bobby Little and Chad Urban (previously of Batard, Ai Fiori, and Khe-Yo). The two have spent months perfecting the ultimate burger made with two Pat LaFrieda smash patties, white American cheese, special sauce, roasted onions, and little gem lettuce on a toasted sesame bun. It is served with a side of fries. Only on 9/18, Leroy’s will serve an exclusive off-the-menu burger special (usually only offered as an industry special). For $22, add a cold Miller High Life and a shot of Fernet. Walk-ins welcome.

The Noortwyck, after a successful summer launch in the West Village, will be offering brunch starting on September 17th. The Brunch menu will be available on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30 am - 2:30 pm and will reflect the same seasonality and market-driven focus as its dinner menu. The Noortwyk is known for things like its Seeded Parker House Rolls, Peeko Oysters with cherry and raspberry, Linguine with clams, and Black Sea Bass with squash blossoms and sauce bouillabaisse. They also have a killer wine list, and cocktails like the Bleecker Street Cobbler with fino sherry, aquavit, strawberry and rhubarb.

WoodSpoon is hosting a virtual Rosh Hashanah cooking class with one of its home chefs, Alon Hadar. The class will take place via Instagram Live Wednesday, September 21st at 7pm from Chef Alon’s home kitchen and it is free for all. Participants can register at WoodSpoon’s Instagram. Chef Alon will take viewers on a tour of Jerusalem’s culinary landscape leaving the audience with stories and delicious recipes. Highlights will include two dishes for which he will provide recipes: Cacio e Pepe Jerusalem Kugel and Kubbeh Matzo Ball.

La Barca Canteen, NYC, Mezcal Festival

La Barca Cantina, New York City’s first and only floating Mexican restaurant and bar, is kicking off Hispanic Heritage Month with Panorama Mezcal Festival, a special event featuring exclusive tastings and seminars about tequila, mezcal, sotol and other agave spirits. Hosted by Panorama Mezcal founder José “Chema” María Dondé Rangel and La Barca Cantina, guests will have the chance to sample over 300 agave spirits from producers including Mal Bien, Santanera, Cuixe, El Jolgorio and more. This one-day-only experience sets sail on the Hudson on Sunday, September 18th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm ($75). A special VIP hour begins at 4pm ($125). For tickets click here.
