Comodo, by husband-and-wife team Felipe Donnelly and Tamy Rofe, is now open in Flatiron. The Latin American-inspired restaurant can be found on the first floor of Freehand New York. Comodo draws its inspiration from Chef Donnelly’s childhood home kitchens from Mexico to Brazil and beyond.
The beverage menu highlights a selection of natural wines, curated by Rofe and sommelier Raquel Makler [previously of Winona’s and Racines], and signature cocktails that give a nod to the lively social experiences waiting to be discovered at the hotel. The duo, also behind acclaimed Colonia Verde in Fort Greene and Disco Tacos in Williamsburg, is excited to celebrate the return of their first restaurant Comodo with new vibrancy and a location in the heart of New York City, complete with a private dining room and heated outdoor seating.
The dinner menu starts with dishes such as Lamb Sliders on a pao de queijo bun with chipotle cream; Steelhead Trout Ceviche with Leche De Tigre; Wild Mushroom Al Ajillo Tacos with housemade tortillas, smoked mushrooms, habanero and preserved lemon; and Beef Tartare with guajillo adobo, anchovy, fresh mustard green, and tobiko served with chicharrones.
Main courses include Pan Fried Duck Breast with tamarind and wheat berries, a Bone-in Grilled Ribeye with chimichurri, and Rocoto Beef Curry with tomatoes, peppers, red onions, roasted potatoes and rice. Sides bring Whole Cauliflower, charred and served with guajillo mole, and Corn Esquite with bone marrow and chili flakes. For dessert, there’s Donnelly’s popular Churros, served with a Mexican dipping chocolate and a Chocolate Tamal with Smoked Guajillo Ice Cream, among others.
Weekday breakfast includes fresh pastries from local partners like La Newyorkina, alongside dishes like Breakfast Tacos with scrambled eggs, beans, avocado and cheese and Comodo Benedict with two poached eggs on an arepa with pork belly and huancaina sauce, served with roasted potatoes.
The bright and airy dining room is a perfect gathering space with neutral wood elements, rustic stone, and deep oranges and blues throughout. Centered by a U-shaped wooden bar lit by warm stone table lamps, the 70-seat dining room is a nod to the original Comodo.
Comodo is located at 23 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY
