Smashed burgers have been gaining in popularity as diners seek out comfort foods. Here are seven spots in New York City where getting “smashed” is the real thing.

Smashed - 177 Orchard St, NYC

Smashed offers the ultimate smashed burger, big and messy, with lots of cheese and sauces oozing out. The classic features American cheese, griddled onions, pickles, smashed sauce on a Martin’s potato roll. They recently introduced a new truffle burger and are opening a second location at the Ashland in Brooklyn.

SmashBurger (Various Locations)

SmashBurger (above) may be a chain, but its burgers are still craveworthy. They recently opened a location in and old theater in Times Square (669 8
th Ave, NYC). One of the top sellers is their Double Bacon Smash Burger made with certified Angus beef, American cheese, Applewood smoked bacon, lettuce, tomatoes and mayo on a toasted bun.

Gotham Burger Social Club (Various Locations)

Gotham Burger is home to the Gotham Smash Pop-up which sells its smash burgers as singles, doubles and triples fresh off the grill loaded up with cheese, pickles and onions. There most recent spot to hit up Gotham was at Rays Bar, but it is best to check their Instagram page (@gothamburger) for newest locations.

7TH Street Burger - 91 East 7th St, NYC

7th Street Burger is getting some buzz as of late. It offers a classic American smash burger with grilled onions, American cheese, pickles and house sauce. They also sell an Impossible Burger and fries.

Lore - 441 7
th Ave, Brooklyn

Lore which recently opened in Park Slope, Brooklyn offers a “Smashed Burger” on its menu that is a bit more upscale than most with aged cheddar, Kirby pickles and served with a side of house fries.

Harlem Shake - 100 West 124th St, NYC

Harlem Shake has developed a following for its smashed burgers made with Pat LaFrieda beef. The Harlem classic comes with a choice or beef or turkey patty with American cheese, pickles, onions and house sauce. The “Hot Mess” is topped with a pickled cherry pickle and onion relish with smoky chipotle mayo.

Shake Shack (Various Locations)

Shake Shack led the way with its smashed burgers at Madison Square Park and continues to make a reliable burger. The ShackBurger made with Angus beef is a top seller. The cheeseburger comes is topped with lettuce, tomato and ShackSauce. The SmokeShack has applewood-smoked bacon and chopped cherry peppers added.
