Rosemary’s Unveils New Fall Menu with Rooftop Garden Vegetables

Rosemary’s in the West Village (18 Greenwich Ave) is a sprawling space with a true farm feel. From the exposed ceiling beams and colorful tiles to rustic wooden tables done in a herringbone pattern, the space is quite inviting.
In honor of harvest time, Rosemary’s is also unveiling new fall dishes like Honey Nut Squash with a walnut vinaigrette, crispy sage and pecorino foglio di nocce, a raw sheep’s milk cheese aged in walnut leaves. The honey is courtesy of bee hives from the restaurant’s rooftop garden.
Other offerings include roasted mushrooms with fontina and oregano served in a skillet and focaccia, light and fluffy, with black truffle and robiola, a soft “triple milk” cheese traditionally from the Lombardy or Piedmont regions of Italy.
A wonderful charcuterie plate showcases prosciutto di parma, soppresseta and mortadella with various cheeses and pickled vegetables served with alongside rosemary focaccia. Also marking the season, Fall Squash Gemelli with caramelized onions, garden fresh kale, and sage with a healthy dusting of grated cheese.
Rosemary’s Crostata Sundae is a standout dessert filled with apples and pears topped with vanilla gelato and drizzled tableside with salted caramel. Guest can also add Amarena cherries, shaved almonds and crushed amaretti cookies accompanying the sharable and “Instagrammable” dessert.
If you find yourself waiting for a table you can take a seat at the bar or stroll up a flight of stairs to the beautiful rooftop garden and hives maintained by Brooklyn Grange. The food, warm atmosphere and welcoming service make Rosemary’s a destination for diners any time of year!

Jersey City’s The Table at 3 Acres (400 Claremont Avenue) announces Chef Daniel Latham’s Brunch, starting on September 30.
The restaurant’s new menu includes the Ridiculous Egg Sandwich, Eggs Benedict, Blueberry Buttermilk Pancakes, Cast Iron Mac & Cheese, French Toast and Fresh Berries, Biscuit, Sausage Gravy & Eggs, Chilaquiles, Huevos Ranchos, and more. Diners can also choose the Bottomless drink option which includes Mimosas, Bloody Marys, and Bellinis for two hours for an additional $25.

What if Alice in Wonderland dropped down the RabbitHole and arrived in New York City. Alice, the Mad Hatter and crew have arrived in Times Square, but instead of dropping down a rabbit hole visitors walk up a magical staircase filled with psychedelic images of Alice’s journey.
The people behind this venture say it was actually, McTwisp, also known as the white rabbit, who was the adventurous sort and who created this last NYC adventure. Once inside, you will find a dark space illuminated with colorful lights and spotlights moving to a powerful dance beat resonating throughout the space.
There are images of Alice’s cast of characters illuminated with strobe lights in the stark black space with golden tables and jet-black banquettes, and crystal chandeliers above.
Drinks here come with names like the Mad Hatter with Mezcal, Jalapeno, Cucumber and Contreau; Tea Thyme with tea infused bourbon, lemon, honey and cinnamon; and We’re All Mad Hatter with Tito’s espresso, Mr. Black, cinnamon, and Scatter Brain. Bottle service is also available.

Familiarity can breed contempt, but judging by the reaction of my friend, K, that’s not the case with “Melissa Etheridge: My Window,” the admittedly beguiling show now being put on by the Oscar- and Grammy-winning singer-songwriter at Circle in the Square.
For the record, K – who listened to every episode of Etheridge’s videocast through the Covid pandemic, seemed quite familiar with many of the details of Etheridge’s complex life story, and knew almost all of the 15 original songs Etheridge performed (stunningly) – called the show “one of the most thrilling evenings of her life.” Continue reading...
A Secret New Restaurant Called WANGBI Emerges in K-Town

Fine-dining establishment WANGBI gets its name from a play on last name of owner Tony Park’s wife, Katherine, and the Korean word for “Queen.” It can be found found hidden inside the Korean BBQ restaurant Antoya.
Leading this culinary voyage is the distinguished Executive Chef Taewoo Kim. With an impressive history of culinary excellence across South Korea, Australia, and the U.S., including stints at Michelin-starred restaurant, Jua, Chef Kim takes guests on an immersive journey he creates seven culinary courses.
Diners are drawn into the making of in-house Kimchi geotjeori, a traditional Korean dish made up of an array of hand-minced ingredients entwined with onions, garlic, ginger, Korean pear, and chili peppers. Guests will also witness the process of making noodles by hand served with a bone marrow broth for a dish called Soojebi. Other offerings involve oxtail, short rib, watermelon and butter.
At the conclusion of the meal, diners will be met with a sweet finale in the form of a Korean popsicle to satisfy the palate. While there feel free to imbibe on carefully choreographed Korean cocktails and seven beers picked after travels to more than 1200 breweries.
Much of WANGBI’s design is inspired by the royal palace of the Joseon Dynasty, in which there is a replica. Handmade tableware is also designed to capture the essence of Korean culture.

Gab’s is kicking off its Wine Dinner Series (Sunday, October 1 at 5:30p and 8pm). Known for its hyper seasonal and elevated menu, the new intimate dinner series will kick-off with wines poured by Nathaniel Livings-Miller of Polaner Wines with premium wines paired with fall dishes by Executive Chef chef Nate Ashton. That includes Tartlet Cured Steelhead Trout, Smoked Roe, Fermented Fresno, Tomato Nectarine, Coppa, Thai Basil, Long Island Duck Blackberry Preserve, Tropea Onion, to name a few. Caviar Russe is holding its Opus One Dinner (Thursday, October 12 at 6:30). Located in the heart of midtown, Caviar Russe offers two jewel box dining experiences with The Bar & Lounge and Dining Room. The Opus One Wine dinner is a celebration of one of Napa Valley’s most prestigious wineries, presented by France Posener. Caviar Russe is also hosting an artful dinner by David Drebin (Thursday, October 26 at 7pm). Drebin, an acclaimed photographer, is celebrating his works and new book Flirting With Danger. The cocktail event will feature passed hors d'oeuvres and talks with the artist whose artworks are also showcased in the restaurant’s bar/lounge. Drebin’s artistic style is often described as epic, dramatic and, above all, cinematic. The event will take place from 7-10p; $150 per person and can be booked here.

Kebab aur Sharab is taking the wraps off its secret Whisky Room. Drawing inspiration from old Delhi railway stations, the Whisky Room is where guests are invited to embark on a journey of flavors through a tasting menu, accompanied by an interactive "art of whisky blending" experience consisting of exquisitely aged scotches, bourbons, and whiskies, including Indian spirits. Guests will also be treated to off-menu items like "The Double Roll," fusing memories of street-side kathi rolls with crunchy onions, minced mutton, potato, paneer, and egg; and "Desi Pija," an Indian thin-crust butter chicken pizza.

Madame George, a speakeasy, tucked away in Midtown has mastered the art of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks through innovative techniques and house-made infusions. Beverage Director, Marshall Minaya elevates these non-alcoholic cocktails through techniques ranging from forced carbonation to grapefruit with adjusted acid. Every cocktail on the menu is full of rich, bold flavors such as clarified strawberries found in the ‘Strawberry Fields’ or aromatic blends of espresso in the ‘Mulberry Bend', a refreshing take on an espresso soda.
For National Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, Emily in Clinton Hill, known for its wood-fired pizza and burgers, is raising breast health awareness and funds for The Breasties, the first all-inclusive nonprofit organization that creates community for survivors, previvors, stage four thrivers, and caregivers impacted by breast and gynecologic cancers. In a unique set of circumstances, Emily founder/co-owner, Emily Hyland, and longtime restaurant manager, Meg Farrell, find themselves on a parallel journey to have preventative mastectomies with reconstruction due to high family risk and BRCA gene positivity. (Emily’s mother, Rona, passed away from breast cancer.)

Stephen Sondheim’s Last Musical, Here We Are, Begins Performances at the Shed

The last musical featuring music and lyrics but the late Stephen Sondheim, “Here We Are,” will begin performances at The Shed (545 West 30th Street) on Thursday, September 28 for a limited 15-week run.
Directed by two-time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello, the show features a book by Tony Award nominee David Ives, and is inspired by two films, “The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie” and “The Exterminating Angel,” both by the legendary Luis Buñuel.
The all-star cast features Francois Battiste, Tracie Bennett, Bobby Cannavale, Micaela Diamond, Amber Gray, Jin Ha, Rachel Bay Jones, Denis O’Hare, Steven Pasquale, David Hyde Pierce, and Jeremy Shamos.

Review: Purlie Victorious is a Big Winner

Satire, they say, closes on Saturday night, but I suspect there should be plenty of Saturday night performances still to come for Kenny Leon’s expertly directed production of Ossie Davis’ 1961 satire “Purlie Victorious: A Non-Confederate Romp Through the Cotton Patch,” now at the Music Box Theater.
In fact, this crowd-pleasing (and thought-provoking) comedy is so fast and so funny, you may not even realize all the sharp-edged – and sadly, still-timely – rebukes about racism that Davis embedded in his superbly constructed script until the show is over. A whale of a tale in Midtown. A giant whale is on display in New York City’s Garment District. It’s called Echoes – A Voice from Unchartered Waters by Artist Mathias Gmachl. The 55-foot steel sculpture is sending a message in honor of Climate Week. The exhibition is meant to symbolize the planet’s flora and fauna and the impact of everyday activities on nature. Met's Northern Renaissance Gallery to Reopen

Bar Miller, a jewel box omakase restaurant from partners Jeff Miller and TJ Provenzano (the duo behind acclaimed sushi restaurant Rosella) has arrived in the East Village at 620 East 6th Street, between Avenues B and C.
The team offering a 15-course menu utilizing sustainably sourced, North American seafood and local produce, showcasing both traditional Japanese preparations such as nigiri, sashimi and chawanmushi, as well as more innovative dishes that feature pickled and preserved ingredients.

The opening menu from Chefs Jeff Miller and James Dumapit features Pickled Oysters in Nori Sauce, with pureé of nori, oysters, pine nuts, olive oil, and chardonnay vinegar; The Bar Miller Salad, with chrysanthemum, lobster, and ginger dressing; Bluefin Party Platter with tuna of differing ages and fat content served with various seasonings; Chawanmushi & Smoked Uni; a variety of eight Nigiri including Hudson Valley Smoked Trout, Bluefish, Chopped Fatty Tuna, South Carolina Shrimp, and Sea Urchin; Beef Tartare Hand Roll; and Spanish Mackerel in a whitefish broth with seaweed butter. Two dessert courses round out the menu including Corn Ice Cream with caviar and Amazake, a traditional Japanese drink made of fermented rice, served with stone fruit jam.
THE FLAVORS OF THE SEA ARRIVE AT POINT SEVEN IN THE METLIFE BUILDING
The beverage menu features a curated selection of local, small batch, and sustainable wine, cider, and beer. A variety of sake is also available, sourced mostly from Japan, as well as a few local brewers like Brooklyn Kura and Kato Sake Works.
Guests enter through a discreetly marked solid white oak wood door. The intimate space, designed by James Beard Award winner Anna Polonsky of Polonsky & Friends, is anchored by an eight seat deep green quartzite omakase bar and features custom, natural oak and burl wood walls, and original oak parquet floors with custom rice paper ceiling lights and overhead lighting made from milled scallop shells. Inspired by coastal cuisines and the ocean’s bounty, Point Seven, led by renowned chef and owner Franklin Becker arrives at the MetLife Building.
Becker has worked in some of New York City’s most iconic restaurants, including Catch and Capitale. He is co-founder of The Little Beet and a Star Chefs Rising Star winner. His most recent project, The Press Club Grill, inspired by the Continental cuisine of the 1950s and 1960s recently opened near Herald Square. For this project he is partnering with restaurant veteran Stephen Loffredo (Zoe, Cena & Jovia, the latter of which was a fixture in Soho for 18 years).
At Point Seven, Chef Becker’s menu honors the diverse preparations of seafood from around the world. The second floor dining room offers an elevated experience with Live Scallop Ceviche with lemon and truffle; and Smoked Sturgeon & Caviar with chive cream cheese on a pumpernickel bagel. Raw bar offerings include lobster, king crab, a selection of East and West Coast oysters, and two seafood towers, aptly named The MetLife and The Vanderbilt.

For a hands-on experience, Chef Becker is serving “Sushi Unrolled,” featuring deconstructed versions of temaki that diners can assemble themselves, with choices including Spicy Tuna with tobiko, red onion and shio kombu and Red Crab with scallion cream, sweet and sour sauce, and rice pearls; with the option to add caviar or uni. Other offerings include Shrimp & Grits with Benton’s Ham; Grilled Octopus cooked “Veracruz” style with tomato sauce, peppers, onions, chiles, and olives; and Steamed Bangs Island Mussels in Thai curry with fresh herbs.
Entrees bring Sea Scallops with sunchoke flan, Tokyo turnips, mushrooms, and truffles; Caribbean Fish Stew with achiote, tomatoes and coconut; and Handmade Spaghetti alla Chitarra with sea urchin and Calabrian chili bread crumbs. In the Bar Room, there are Crispy Fish Tails, leaving no part of the fish to waste, and Baked Clams served “Howard Beach-style.”

Max Green (formerly of Amor y Amargo and Death & Co.) leads Point Seven’s beverage program with seasonal cocktails such as the 4 Corners Martini with gin, Oka Kura, Timbal Dry, and Seville orange bitters; Crow’s Nest, an on-tap Japanese highball with Toki, apple brandy, corn tea, lemon cordial, and soda; and Sea Legs with rum, roasted pineapple, Calabrian chili, coconut, and lime.
The luxe design, by Studio Valerius, also draws its inspiration from the sea with curved seafoam banquettes and coral-inspired light fixtures. The back of the bar evokes a glowing sun rising over the horizon, while in the main dining room, a sculpture named FLOW, conures up a shimmering school of fish swimming overhead.

Henry Taylor: B Side is the first exhibition to survey the career of leading contemporary artist Henry Taylor. Through painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation, this retrospective celebrates an artist widely appreciated for his unique aesthetic, social vision, and freewheeling experimentation.
Taylor’s figurative work, populated by friends, relatives, strangers on the street, athletes, politicians, and entertainers, showcases an imagination that encompasses multiple worlds. Informed by experience, his work conveys fundamental empathy through close examination and sharp social criticism.

Henry Taylor: B Side is the largest exhibition of Taylor’s work to date, with over 150 works from the late-1980s to the present. Though Taylor is renowned for his portraiture, his work encompasses many genres and moves through influences. Within this stylistic diversity, Taylor’s attention to Black Americans and to various conditions of Black America comes into focus in ways that are deep-feeling, witty, joyful, and concerned.
The exhibit will be on view from Oct 4,2023 to Jan 28, 2024.

Mamazul Mexican Grill, a towering new Mexican restaurant on the corner of West 25th Street and Broadway, lights up the evening sky. It’s bold red neon signs point the way to an even bolder interior. Tall ceilings with lush greenery and colorful tiles fill this festive space celebrating the flavors of Mexico.
The meal begins with traditional dishes like guacamole with serrano pepper and blue corn tortilla chips, Mexican Street Corn with crema and cotija cheese, and tostaditas with ahi tuna. Seafood ceviche cocktails are offered along with tacos, including birria and mole short rib.

What is in store for the landmark Lord & Taylor building? The brass has been shined up. Signs on the windows says “Time to Bloom” and “What’s Blossoming?” Amazon purchased the 11-story building at 424 Fifth Avenue at West 38th Street from WeWork for a reported $1.15 billion and plans use it as its New York City headquarters for some 2,000 employees.

The New York Post reported that the building includes a posh indoor cafeteria, lounge, floor-to-ceiling windows with killer views, and a dog run on the rooftop. So far, no word on what the retail space on the first floor will house.

The concourse at Rockefeller Center is usually a dead zone after 6pm when most restaurants are closed. Enter The Tipsy Baker which is trying to change all of that. Bakery by day and bar by night, it remains open until 11pm on weekdays with plans to extend that to weekends.
The space is quite beautiful with a marble bar as its centerpiece with cozy tables surrounding it. Light jazz music plays in the background making it a perfect spot for a romantic meal in the heart of what is a tourist mecca.

Neeloo, a new restaurant by partners Christophe Moser and Claudio Angelli, has arrived in Williamsburg with a menu inspired by Moser’s upbringing in the South of France.
Neeloo offers diners an assortment of share plates centered on New American cuisine with a Mediterranean twist. Moser is joined by his son, Sean, who steps in as Sous Chef after honing his skills at Gramercy Tavern, Zou Zou’s, Olmsted, Peasant, and Saraghina Caffè.

Belfast native Jack McGarry, Managing Partner of the popular Irish pub, The Dead Rabbit, is debuting his latest concept, The Irish Exit at the Moynihan Train Hall.
The contemporary Irish pub is open daily from 10 a.m. to midnight. Designed for locals and passengers on the go, The Irish Exit features modern Irish drinks, food, culture, and hospitality. The bar, described as a gateway to the spirit of Ireland, offers an authentic approach to Irish heritage with a quick wit. It is the first of what is expected to be a number of new bars by McGarry's team inside transit hubs across the country.

For the 17th year, the Metropolitan Opera’s Opening Night will be transmitted live to numerous large screens on Tuesday, September 26 on Duffy Square (between 46th and 47th Streets) and the Broadway plazas between 43rd and 44th streets and 46th and 47th Streets with additional standing room available.
This year, the Met’s season will begin Jake Heggie’s “Dead Man Walking,” starring Joyce DiDonato and Ryan McKinny in a new production directed by Ivo van Hove and conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin. The opera is based on the story of Sister Helen Prejan’s memoir about her fight for the soul of a condemned murderer.

Kobo Brings Mediterranean Flavors to the East Village

Kōbo is the latest offering from Chef Ruben Rodriguez’s Nai Restaurant Group which includes Amigo, Nai, and Emilia. At Kōbo, Rodriguez explores his Spanish roots and love of Italian and Mediterranean flavors. The centerpiece of the restaurant is a 35-seat pink Brazilian quartzite bar and chef’s counter, lit by an elaborate wood chandelier composed of 1,117 handcrafted pieces of wood in a shape reminiscent of a wave.
Kōbo’s menu celebrates simple ingredients and soulful cooking, honoring Rodriguez’s Galician heritage. Look for dishes “to share” like Caponata over homemade foccacia topped with cured sardines; Croquette, an adaptation of his mother’s cod croquettes made fresh daily; Broccoli Rabe with romesco and parmesan; and Radicchio salad with grilled pear, hazelnuts, pecorino and aged balsamic. There is Hummus with hints of harissa served with warm Bazlama bread, and Mortadella that sits atop homemade sourdough.
Pastas, which rotate with the season, feature Fideuà, a pasta form of paella from Spain’s Valencia region made with squid ink, octopus, baby squid and saffron; Kōbo's Lasagna layered with spicy beef bolognese and a curry béchamel; Pappardelle accompanied by spicy Italian sausage and pecorino; and house-made Ravioli filled with delicata squash, brown butter, pumpkin seeds and sage.
Mains include Oxtail, complemented by carrot purée, espigarelo and pine nuts, and Whole Market Fish served with a black olive tapenade and herbs. Tiramisu, Panna Cotta and seasonal pies are counted among the desserts.
The wine list leans Italian and Spanish, while also showcasing other wine-producing regions of the Mediterranean. Cocktails include a Martini with gin and Moroccan black olive infused vermouth and Kōbo Kiss consisting of gin, Cappelletti, vermouth, and Maraschino juice. Mesiba, the Tel Aviv-inspired restaurant at The Moxy in Williamsburg, is introducing Chef Eli’s Buli's Msabbaha. Chef Buli developed the recipe from his memories eating hot hummus at the port in Jaffa, Israel. The dish is available within a limited window daily from 5:00pm - 6:30pm. Each Masabbaha is made to order with warm roasted chickpeas, Moshes olive oil, tahini and a tatbila spice blend, rolled over on a gorgeously decked out trolley. This signature offering is perfect for sharing among a small group and is served with Frena Bread: a traditional Moroccan bread prepared in a taboon clay oven and topped with sea salt, sesame, and sage oil ($20).

Oktoberfest Bash coming to City Point in Downtown Brooklyn on Saturday, September 23rd from 12PM - 10PM. The annual festival that celebrates Bavarian culture, food, and beer is coming to Downtown Brooklyn for an Oktoberfest Bash hosted by DeKalb Market Hall and Sixpoint Brewery. Inspired by the annual German festival, the event will include authentic eats (including Pierogi Boys seen here), games, and activities for all ages. Traditional music and throwback tunes from the Street Brass Band and Shag Horns will keep the party going and people dancing all day. Dim Sum Palace can be found throughout the city. But one of the most stylish locations is in the heart of the Financial District at 123 William Street, located just blocks away from the World Trade Center and new Perelman Performing Arts Center.
An elegant crystal chandelier and bar lead the way to the main dining room surrounded by murals of mystical mountains with storks flying in unison. Nearby, pristine tanks hold Dungeness crabs and lobsters.
During this visit, the restaurant was celebrating its Mid-Autumn Festival with duck as the star attraction – duck dumplings, duck egg rolls and Peking Duck. Fill the steamed wrappers with morsels of duck and crispy skin along with thinly sliced scallion and cucumber. Drizzle on some hoisin sauce and it truly is a festival of flavors.
The restaurant is also known for its namesake, dim sum. There are dozens to choose from including shrimp and chicken dumplings, shumai, BBQ pork buns, pan-fried pork dumplings and steamed spare ribs to name a few. Friend of a Farmer, known for its seasonal American fare, now has a second restaurant spearheaded by the founding couple’s three children - Taylor, Weston, and Rose. Together, they are offering new takes on classic comfort dishes that have been a mainstay for the Morabito family since the original restaurant opened in 1986.
With an emphasis on sustainability, the menu features wild caught fish, locally grown produce, and meats from New Jersey’s Fossil Farms. Appetizers include a Country Cheese Board, Local Fried Oysters, Parmesan Herb Crusted Shrimp, and Avocado Tartare served with citrus pita chips. Vegetable forward dishes include a Harvest Crostini with roasted butternut squash, whipped feta, honey and fig chutney.
Quintessential Friend of a Farmer entrees can be found like the Old-Fashioned Chicken Pot Pie; Ranch Hand Shepherd's Pie; and Short Rib served on turnip and carrot puree with kale in a port wine demi-glace. For something lighter try Salmon served with cauliflower purée, shallots and brussels sprouts. Desserts bring a freshly-baked Rustic Apple Pie and Chocolate Chip Cookie Skillet, among others.

A new restaurant called Bodega is set to open on the corner of 47th Street and 9th Avenue. Dressed in bright yellow with a bold red Bodega sign, the awning suggests an all-day café with sandwiches, baked goods, espresso and cocktails.
Crab Hero a Chinese restaurant specializing in seafood is opening at 615 9th Avenue. The restaurant will also have a bar.
Poppy Poppy, a Taiwanese fried chicken shop is now open a few doors away at 617 9th Avenue. Aside from fried chicken, you will also find other fried items like sweet potato, calamari, oyster mushrooms squid balls, and fries.
Sadly, a closure to also report...
Momofuku Ssäm Bar, which relocated to the Seaport in 2021, says its final day of service will be September 30th.

LOVE is on Display at Rockefeller Center

Works by artist Robert Indiana are now on display at Rockefeller Center, including his bright red LOVE sculpture in big block letters which can be found on Fifth Avenue. Born in 1928, Indiana became an icon of the the American Pop Art movement in the 1960s.
The 12-foot-high polychrome aluminum LOVE sculpture was first created in 1970 and reportedly dates back to his childhood memory of “Love” while visiting a Christian Scientist Church. It would later be immortalized in a postal stamp.
Unfortunately, Indiana would never benefit much financially from his LOVE sculpture which he never formally trademarked. After his death in 2018, it sparked a $150 million legal battle between Indiana’s caretaker and a company called the Morgan Art Foundation Limited.
Also on display in a courtyard between Fifth and Sixth Avenues at Rock Center is another of Indiana's works, "ONE Through ZERO," showcasing Indiana’s long-held fascination with numbers, with "one" symbolizing birth and "zero," death.
The Robert Indiana exhibit will be on display from September 13 through October 23, 2023. According to Rockefeller Center, it is accompanied by 193 flags surrounding The Rink featuring images from Indiana’s Peace Paintings series, created as a response to the 9/11 attacks.

Delmonico’s new Executive Chef Edward Hong (Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare, Oceana, Aureole, The Clocktower) has also added his own touch to the menu with new dishes like Myung Ran Caesar Salad (Little Gem, Parmesan, White Anchovies, Chives, Creamy Myung Dressing); and Sea Urchin & Abalone Risotto (Koshihikari Rice, Abalone Liver Sauce, Nori, Crispy Shitake, Shaved Frozen Oysters). Delmonico’s is also welcoming Max Tucci as its Brand Officer. The television personality and author of “The Delmonico Way; Sublime Entertaining and Legendary Recipes from the Restaurant that Made New York!” has a personal connection to the restaurant. His grandfather was one of the owners who opened Delmonico’s after Prohibition in the 1920s. His family operated the restaurant for over 60 years, and now Tucci will oversee and support Delmonico’s guest experience.
The space is divided into three luxurious areas for dining and drinks - Tesla’s Quarters features a cozy fireplace and shimmering bar; Dicken’s Alcove described as one of the most coveted dining rooms in the city with inlaid marble floors; and the Club Room with its coffered ceiling and elegant wood paneling.
Delmonico’s is known as America’s first fine dining restaurant. It was founded by brothers John and Peter Delmonico. The landmark building in the Renaissance Revival style was designed by architect James Brown Lord. The wedge-like “Flatiron” structure with rounded front predates the Flatiron Building by about a dozen years.
Turcinovic and his partner Joseph Licul have signed a 15-year lease ensuring that Delmonico’s will be around for many years to come.
The Perelman Performing Arts Center Opens in Lower Manhattan

The Perelman Performing Arts Center (251 Fulton Street) is now open to the public. PAC NYC is a 138-foot-tall, cube-shaped building with radically flexible capabilities designed by the architecture firm REX, led by founding principal Joshua Ramus, and created in collaboration with executive architect Davis Brody Bond, theater consultant Charcoalblue and acoustician Threshold Acoustics. The building is wrapped in nearly 5,000 half-inch thick marble tiles which have been book matched to create a symmetrical pattern that is identical on all four sides of the building. The marble façade allows light to radiate in during the day and glow out during the evening.
The building’s three principal venues – the John E. Zuccotti Theater (seating up to 450 people), the Mike Nichols Theater (seating up to 250), and the Doris Duke Theater (seating up to 99) – can be used independently or by combining them. In all, the auditoria can transform into 10 different proportions that collectively adopt more than 60 stage-audience arrangements with capacities ranging from 99 to 950 seats, and with audience circulation and lobby areas varying to match.
PAC NYC’s inaugural season will begin with “Refuge: A Concert Series to Welcome the World” – a five-night global music series featuring a vibrant mix of acclaimed musicians centered around the theme of refuge. The season will also include conversations with celebrities including Kerry Washington and Jada Pinkett Smith, concerts by Tony Award winners LaChanze and Brian Stokes Mitchell, a new play written by and starring Laurence Fishburne and a new production of the legendary musical “Cats.”
Meanwhile, David Rockwell and his architecture and design firm Rockwell Group have designed the interior of the lobby and restaurant with a dynamic, glowing ceiling visible from the street to create an inviting entry experience. The lobby's restaurant, Metropolis by Marcus Samuelsson, along with the bar and outdoor terrace, offers a new gathering space for the Lower Manhattan community and opens later this fall.

Located on the corner of Staton and Ludlow Streets on the Lower East Side is Chinato. The cocktail bar is led by Ray Zhou who made a name for himself at Double Chicken Please which was #1 on the World’s 50 Best Bars list this year. At Chinato, Zhou is focusing on his humble beginnings traveling from Dalian in Northeastern China to New York City – hence the name “China-to.”
Chinato’s unconventional layout offers a unique way for guests to experience a cocktail bar – it’s intimate, immersive, and interactive, centered around an island-style bar where there is no front or back. This offers guests at one of the island’s four seats a unique vantage point to the action. There is also a traditional bar that seats five, and additional table seating for 20. The space features mixed woods, exposed brick, and stainless steel accents. Black leather tufted bar stools and plush grey-green chairs offer comfort, while the ceiling’s fishboned wood detailing and hanging circular light fixture adds drama.
Cocktails are a true labor of love with some components taking up to 10 hours to prepare in advance. They include the Chinato (a nod to Bleachers and Bruce Springsteen’s “Chinatown”) with Chinato, lychee, bayberry, goji berry, Ming River baijiu, and bourbon; the Gin & Juice (inspired by Snoop Dogg’s “Gin & Juice”) is a mix of gin, earl gray, grapefruit, strawberry, rhubarb, Campari, and clarified yogurt; and the Vermouth (an ode to Digby Vermouth’s “Supernova Dreamsicle”) is a mix of Quinquina, husk cherry, bergamot, and osmanthus.
Chef Zhaojin Dai, the sous chef at two Michelin star Jungsik, developed the food program at Chinato. It includes the Taco with fluke, seaweed, avocado, and orange; Fries with seaweed, wasabi, and soy; Rice Bowl with veal tongue, wagyu, shacha, shiitake, and egg yolk, and The Grilled, a scallop dish with Fava bean, pickled radish, and micro cilantro. For dessert, there is Black Rice Pudding with mango and coconut, and Ron Zacapa 23 rum.

Sagaponack Reopens in Flatiron, Reimagined and Ready for Business

Sagaponack with its sea-shelled glass storefront and custom artwork has reopened in Flatiron with a new team and seafood-inspired menu.
Co-owner Kyungil Lee, formerly of Michelin-starred JeJu Noodle Bar, has tapped Chef Phil Choy (Dovetail, Boulud Sud) to reinvigorate the Sagaponack brand, named after the breezy coastal village in the town of Southampton. The menu takes diners on a culinary journey that spans from Long Island to the Pacific Rim and Mediterranean.
Oysters - raw, dressed and roasted – start things off topped with things like Siberian caviar and gochujang butter. An impressive Fluke Tartare follows with coconut, Marcona almonds, and tobiko placed tableside.
Larger plates bring Ricotta Cavatelli served under peekytoe crab, sunchokes, and Meyers lemon; ‘Nduja mussels with pork sausage and Calabrian chili in a rich tomatoey broth; and Seafood Paella with chorizo, saffron, and fennel sofrito. Thai Milk Cake with mango and pecans, and Earl Grey Crème Brûlée with fresh strawberries and mint add a sweet finish to the meal.
A rotating wine list and seasonal beers are offered, including IPAs, lagers, ciders, and a locally sourced pilsner from Montauk. Craft cocktails also evoke the sea with names like Seaside Sunset and Fiji Blue.

Hot Plate: Shorne Benjamin’s Fat Fowl Leaves Its Mark in Brooklyn

From working in a bank to reinventing himself as a chef, Shorne Benjamin, attributes his success in large part to his Caribbean upbringing with his grandmother in St. Lucia, who he calls an “icon” in his life, and who taught him how to cook starting at the age of seven. As a chef he had one goal in mind to open his own restaurant.
Now after attending culinary school, and appearing on Beat Bobby Flay, Chef Benjamin achieved that dream and now operates Fat Fowl at Brooklyn’s DeKalb Market where he is cooking “new age” Caribbean cuisine.

His signature dish is his Organic Lavendar Rotisserie Chicken which is sold by the quarter piece, half or whole chicken. It is served with hearty sides ranging from garlic string beans and quinoa with beans to creamy mac & cheese and black fried rice. Other signature dishes include an Oxtail Grilled Cheese and a Curry Shrimp Burger. There is also a daily market fish option. On the vegan side, look for Benjamin’s Jerk Tamarind Mushroom.

Cornelius, the high end farm-to-table restaurant from City Winery, appears to have closed. The main entrance is locked, the menu has been removed from the front of the restaurant, although the signage remains. An employee at the nearby Food Hall telling us the space is currently being used for private functions. We’ve reached out to City Winery for a comment.

"We have converted Cornelius to be used more efficiently as a private event space for up to 75 people as that was the most demanded desire from our patrons. Ceramics Master Shiro Tsujimura Exhibit at THE GALLERY

Contemporary ceramics artist Shiro Tsujimura, considered a living legend in Japan, will have his works on display at THE GALLERY (17 West 20th Street) from September 9th through December 17th.
For this exhibition, THE GALLERY led by Michelin-starred chef Hiroki Odo, has been transformed into a “forest within the city” in homage of Tsujimura’s home in majestic Nara, which is where he has built a teahouse and seven kilns over the years. Tsujimura’s creations are described as “pure and spiritual” where the art of imperfection plays an important role.

Chef Odo has created special dishes to complement the exhibition including Charcoal-Grilled Duck with Sansho-Soy Sauce; Pot-Cooked Seasoned Rice Ball with Ayu (a fish with distinctive, sweet flavor with melon and cucumber aromas); and Seasonal Kinchaku-Bukuro (a pouch-type dish crafted from tofu-skin wrap with seasonal vegetables).

Greg Baxtrom’s Olmsted Offers a New Dining Experience

Chef Greg Baxtrom is taking diners on a journey literally with every meal. An experimental tasting and prix fixe menu physically takes guests through each of Olmsted’s distinct dining areas.
Upon entering the Brownstone in Prospect Heights, the journey begins with drinks and snacks in Olmsted’s intimate “Library.” Think Peach Escabeche with serrano chili and fermented yuzu kosho, and Cherry Tonic with sungold tomato and olives.
Guests then move through the restaurant’s floor-to-ceiling forest installation into the year-round garden (one of Brooklyn’s most romantic gardens with new seating, lighting, tiki torches and potted plants) for the majority of their meal. Here diners can savor dishes like Kouign-Amann with hoisin mushrooms and sesame, and King Crab with Koshihikari Rice, corn, piquillo pepper, Espelette and sea urchin.
The evening ends with a sweet finish in Olmsted’s dining room, which is lined with a living herb and garden wall. Desserts include White Peach Sorbet with lemongrass, creme fraiche and shiso meringue. Guests are welcome to return to the garden for post-dinner drinks and Olmsted’s cult-favorite S'mores (served with individual coals, oversized homemade marshmallows and Hershey’s Chocolate).
The entire tasting menu experience costs $165 per person. The prix-fixe menu runs $75 per person while the a la carte menu exclusively highlights classic Olmsted dishes like Carrot Crepe, Kale and Crab Rangoon and Duck Liver Mousse.
Reservations are available via Resy, and as always, walk-ins are welcome at Olmsted. Guests may reserve or walk-in to experience just drinks and S’Mores in the garden as well.
Terrorvision Set to Haunt Times Square

“TerrorVision - Live Screaming Your Nightmares,” a new immersive horror experience, will begin performances on September 13 at the fictional Horrorwood Studios in Times Square (300 W. 43rd Street).
As audiences embark on a tour of the dilapidated Horrowood Studios, they’re invited to get a ‘behind the screams’ sneak peek of the filming of the upcoming TerrorVision Halloween episode. As things go terribly awry, the screen shatters and guests are suddenly cast as the unwitting new star, forced to face three tales of terror with each manifesting as an immersive haunted house-style experience, overflowing with gruesome creatures and movie magic special effects.
Guests are going to see snow and wind inside of the rooms, giant creatures, and seemingly impossible effects constantly happening all around, quite literally swirling them into this nightmare world.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art will open its new 81st Street Studio: Adventures in Art and Science on September 9th. The play space, for children ages 3 to 11 and their families, is located in the Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education. The renovated 3,500-square-foot area will be an hands-on learning space that reimagines how The Met can inspire exploration of its collection spanning over 5,000 years of art to amplify curiosity and create new experiences for its youngest visitors.
The Angel Band Project Presents: Songs of Survival - A Benefit Concert on 9/21 at Chelsea Table & Stage (152 W 26th St). This year’s benefit concert will feature songs written and performed in music therapy as a way to process trauma. Chef Cheng Lin Launches Shota Omakase in Williamsburg

Shota Omakase has arrived in Williamsburg at 50 South 3rd Street. Here you will find Chef/Owner Cheng Lin (Sushi Seki, Blue Ribbon, ITO Tribeca) overseeing a 16-seat Edomae-style omakase experience at his new restaurant, Shota Omakase.
The 18-course experience changes daily using the finest ingredients and honoring the traditions of Edomae - an emphasis on marinating, curing, and aging. Chef Lin sources his seafood from the Toyosu Market in Japan, using the traditional Ike-jime and Shinkei-jime techniques to ensure the humane dispatch of the fish once caught and helping to preserve the pristine quality of its meat.
Highlights include Botan Ebi, spot prawn from Vancouver with SanbaiZu jelly and golden ossetra caviar and Sawara, seared Spanish mackerel from Fukuoka Japan, homemade citrus miso and pickled cucumber. This is followed by the nigiri courses, perfect cuts of Chūtoro, blue fin fatty tuna from Ehime Japan, Shima Aji, striped jack mackerel, Kuruma Ebi, fresh tiger prawns, and more. Each pioece is plated atop mounds of sweet and sticky Inochi No Ichi, shari-sushi rice that Chef Lin sources from a small farmer in Gero City, Gifu Japan. He also sources akazu, a red sushi vinegar aged for three to five years to bring added umami.
Upon entering, guests are greeted by a wraparound white oak omakase bar. The bar is lined with sustainable grey cushioned white oak wooden chairs. The simple space designed by Chef Lin to create an experience where the focus is on the meal with no distractions.
The restaurant also offers an a la carte menu of curated sakes, wines and beers that pair well with the menu. The experience is $175 per person (without sake or wine) and there are two seatings Tuesday through Friday at 6pm and 8:30pm, and three seatings on Saturday and Sunday at 5pm, 7pm and 9pm.

Kellari Taverna, now celebrating 15 years in Midtown, is known for its impeccable service and mouthwatering seafood. The restaurant is owned by the Aktipis family led by Stavros Aktipis and his son Andreas. Executive Chef Vasiliki Vouriotaki honed her skills at several restaurants in Athens before moving to New York City where she worked at Oceana. Vouriotaki is known for adding modern touches to classic Greek flavors.

Avra Rockefeller Center is a magnificent multi-story restaurant from The Avra Group. The space is light and airy with towering ceilings, an elegant marble bar with lush greenery, and ample outdoor seating when the weather permits.
Visitors will also discover a large seafood display featuring Mediterranean specialties like Barbounia, Lithrini and Fagri, along with giant tiger prawns. Specialties include Carpaccio of Octopus, Spanakopita with spinach, feta and leeks baked in filo dough, along with assorted spreads. Freshly caught fish are flown in daily from Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal - all charcoal grilled simply with olive oil, lemon and sea salt. Molyvos is named after the Livanos family’s ancestral hometown of Molyvos. Located at its new perch in Hell’s Kitchen, in the former Esca space, Molyvos is all about the flavors of Greece, including Greek wines and spirits. The restaurant is run by John Livanos who emigrated to the U.S. in 1957 and began his career in Manhattan as a dishwasher. Today he operates Molyvos with his children, Nick, Bill and Corin, who also own the critically-acclaimed Oceana.
The menu brings traditional Greek dips like Melitzanosalata made with roasted eggplant, tomato, yogurt, garlic, and herb; and Tzatziki, sheep’s milk yogurt with cucumber, garlic, mint, and dill. Larger plates include Stuffed Red Peppers with basmati rice, eggplant, zucchini, tomato, toasted bread crumbs and manouri cheese; Molyvos moussaka with spiced lamb & beef, potato, eggplant, peppers, and yogurt béchamel; along with an assortment whole fish. Eléa evokes the Greek islands at its Upper West Side location. The sister of Kyma, in Flatiron, Eléa offers a modern take on Greek cuisine. An oval-shape concrete bar serves as the centerpiece of the restaurant, a meeting place for a quick bite and cocktail. The dining room is brightened by white-washed walls, reclaimed wood and teal tapestry.
Artifacts also fill the space, including a 200-year-old olive press. The menu includes Mediterranean salads, assorted whole fish, char-grilled lamb chops, braised short ribs, and Greek classics like Pastitsio; baked pasta with seasonal mushrooms and béchamel.

Named after the ancient Greek queen of the Mediterranean, Anassa Taverna in Astoria is a jewel of a restaurant. Setting the mood, an elegant space with towering chandeliers, exposed wooden beams and floor-to-ceiling windows. Queens County Fair to Celebrate 40th Anniversary

The Queens County Farm Museum announced today its 40th anniversary programming of the Queens County Fair, which runs from September 8 through September 10, featuring a variety of food, entertainment, carnival rides, midway games, free crafts and competitions. The fair also marks the opening weekend of the Amazing Maize Maze, inspired by the 1954 Ford tractor generously donated by the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
This year’s fair will host a variety of new activations including the Taste New York Pavilion, which will showcase its delicious New York State growers and producers; the Cabot Cheese Cruiser Cheese Truck with free mac n’ cheese; the Heartee Mushroom Vessel featuring gourmet mushroom tastings, recipes and education materials; the Colonial Lab at the Adriance Farmhouse, which features historic house tours and demonstrations such as butter churning, colonial cooking and quill writing.; Lewis Latimer House Museum’s Mobile Lewis Latimer Lab, featuring its state-of-the-art mobile TinkerLab with free STEAM activities to fair-goers; and Paint the Farm: The Arts Parlor, which offers free face painting, caricatures, farm-themed temporary tattoos.
There will be a beer garden showcasing New York State beer and cider curated by Queens Night Market, along with the Museum’s famed apple cider donuts and pies. Restaurant Yuu from Chef/Owner Yuu Shimano has launched an eight-seat Wine and Cheese Bar adjacent to the L-shaped chef’s tasting counter. The creative and playful atmosphere adds a new dimension to the restaurant by making it a destination for pre- or post-dinner drinks.
Guests can ejoy wine and sake by the glass as well as Japanese whisky, selected by newly-appointed Sommelier Alex Chung. Accompanying the beverages is a well-curated cheese selection that will include a 26-month Comte, Chabichou, and Mimolette.
The cheese is served as a selection of 3 cuts or as part of a Grand Cheese Plate to go along with Donut Peach Jam and Dry Fruit Bread made in house daily by Executive Pastry Chef Masaki Takahashi.

High-End Noksu Opens in Train Station Near Herald Square

After hopping a train you can hop into Nōksu, an upscale 12-seat tasting counter within the entrance to the 32nd Street subway station at Broadway. Chef Dai Kim is offering a 15-course menu made up predominantly of seafood.
The menu includes dishes like Kenagi with turnips and crab innard maître de’ butter; Oyster with Hawaiian red prawn, shima aji, cucumber and nasturtium; Coho Salmon with bell pepper, fennel and brown butter; and American Eel with foie gras, gim hoe cake and tangsu. Non-seafood options include a Smoked Quail BBQ Sundae with puffed duck feet and Millbrook Venison with corn, morel, beet, gochujang and shiso. For a sweet finish there is Cotton Candy Grape with Tahitian vanilla and white chocolate.
Nōksu is offering two seatings – one at 5pm and another at 8:30pm. Diners are asked to arrive promptly for their 2-hour meal, and in what is reminiscent of a speakeasy, guests enter using a code sent on the day of the reservations.

Saying Goodbye to Rincon Criollo after 42 Years in Queens

After 42 years in Queens, Rincon Criolla is making a move from Queens to Long Island. Surging rent and quality of life issues making doing business for this Cuban institution on Junction Boulevard unbearable, so it is packing up and leaving the city behind.
Long Island’s gain is NYC’s loss. Esther Acosta, one of the owners, saying in an Instagram post by Righteous Eats, there used to be a togetherness in Corona, but now people just don’t care. She says people walking by throw garbage right in front of the door. Acosta adding, “You can love something but if you don’t take care of it, water it, and nurture it, it’s not going to grow”
Rincon Criolla is well known for its Cuban sandwiches, pork-filled Cuban tamal, Rabo Encendido (stewed oxtails), and Palomilla Steak with grilled onions. The restaurant is also known for its Cuban coffee and desserts like Buñuelos, fried dough made with yuca and sweet potato topped with homemade honey sauce.
Acosto says they are taking everything with them, the pots and pans, the cooks, the staff to Garden City, Long Island. The new location, she says, is much larger with space for a bar and dance floor and maybe some salsa. But those red checkered tablecloths, camaraderie and pictures lining the walls celebrating Cuban culture in the city are simply irreplaceable.

If you haven’t been to Koreatown lately, let’s just say this area of the city is booming, especially on a Friday night. We found ourselves in miss KOREA BBQ. Slightly faded from its glory days but with perfectly-seasoned grills, miss KOREA operates like a well-oiled machine, changing out tables quickly to maximize the money coming in. It’s also the place to get that late night bulgogi fix.
We started with some thick cut pork belly cooked simply with a sliced onion. Our server, who looked like she could have been your mother, returned often to flip meat from side to side until it started to caramelized. Turns out she also had mean scissor skills – SNIP, SNIP, SNIP – and in moments we were eating some of the tastiest pork belly in the city.
This process was repeated with ribeye, boneless short rib and brisket all while enjoying traditional condiments like high-grade kimchi, spicy been sprouts, slices of fish cake among others spread across the table. We also sprang for a bowl of Junju Bibimbap, a traditional mix of vegetables, bulgogi beef, and egg yolk served atop a bed of rice. We also enjoyed complimentary egg souffle found at many Korea restaurants in all of its eggy goodness and a piping hot tofu stew.
Add in a few cold beers or some soju and you are set. Loud, boisterous and fun, miss KOREA should not be missed!

The High Line will be the Backdrop for Alexis Blake's Crack Nerve Boogie Swerve

Crack Nerve Boogie Swerve, a performance by Amsterdam-based artist Alexis Blake, will take place on the High Line Sept 5, 6 and 7 at the 14th Street passage at 7pm.
Both an installation and a performance, the work starts with sheets of glass nestled in moveable steel bases. The performers, who are a percussionist, low frequency sound artist, and four dancers coming from different dance genres such as hip hop, contemporary, ballet, Afro-fusion, and tap, activate the glass to explore transparency, resistance, resonance and breaking—breaking free from constraints and liberating oneself from the confinement of oppression.
Presented at TENT in Rotterdam in 2019 and KW Institute for Contemporary Art in February 2023, Blake’s work on the High Line will mark the work’s U.S. premiere and the artist’s first performance in New York City. To RSVP click here

Ruth Asawa Exhibition is coming to the Whitney Museum

Ruth Asawa Through Line is the first exhibition to examine Ruth Asawa’s oeuvre through the lens of her lifelong drawing practice. Co-organized by the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Menil Collection, this presentation reveals the complexity and richness of the materials and processes she experimented with, emphasizing the foundational role that drawing played in developing her distinct visual language. While now widely recognized as a sculptor, Asawa (1926–2013) practiced drawing daily.
Through drawing, Asawa explored the world around her and the boundaries of the medium itself, turning everyday encounters into moments of profound beauty and endowing ordinary objects with new aesthetic possibilities. Positioning drawings, collages, and watercolors alongside stamped prints, copper foil works, and sketchbooks, the exhibition will expose the breadth of Asawa’s innovative practice through over one hundred works from public and private collections, many of which have not been previously exhibited. The exhibition runs from Sept 16, 2023 to Jan 15, 2024.

Jean-Georges Vongerichten is shaking things up at the Tin Building. Seeds & Weed, a vegetarian restaurant that debuted at the food hall's opening, is out and a second location of abcV is in. abcV is renowned for its forward-thinking plant based dishes, tonics and cocktails.
The new abcV features dishes like Black Sesame, House Togarashi with crispy olive oil artichokes, saffron rose aioli, and meyer lemon; Avocado Lettuce Cups with toasted cumin, serrano chili, lime, and pepita; and Whole Roasted Cauliflower with turmeric tahini, za’atar, date molasses, pomegranate, red zhug, fresh herbs, and pistachio.
Jean-Georges and Chef of Plant-Based Development Neal Harden will be overseeing the new project.
